Coaching FAQ

What does a Career Coach do?

A career coach works with you, takes into account your unique situation and needs, and helps you identify strengths skills, values, and interests to explore different career paths and options.  A career coach assists you in setting short- and long-term goals and developing actionable plans to reach your goals.  In the actual job search, a coach helps you identify your personal brand, provides strategies, helps identify potential opportunities, and gives feedback on resumes and cover letters.  If you are lacking the skills you need for a new career you want, you coach should recommend training courses, or certifications.

Does a Career Coach write my resume and cover letter?

No.  But I'll teach you how to write your own, and I provide templates to make it easier. Moreover, I'll teach you how to tailor your resume to meet job descriptions, and what tools are out there to make this a more efficient process.

Are there professional standards for the coaching industry?

Yes, there is a code of ethics, core competencies, accreditation processes and an International Coach Federation (industry association) that promotes the advancement of coaches. To learn more about this, click here: http://www.coachfederation.org/ICF/

How will I know you are the right coach for me?

During our initial conversations and/or discovery session, together we will identify if this is an appropriate fit. So, before you say "yes", you will have a sample of what the coaching experience will be like. If we're not a good fit, then it won't be the most helpful experience for you, and neither of us wants that  Until then, click on my BIO page to learn more about myself and my approach in coaching.

As a former teacher who has also worked in the staffing industry, I have the skills to know what hiring managers are looking for, and I remember what it felt like in the classroom to feel overwhelmed, and hopeless in a toxic environment.

How do I get started in the coaching process?

If you are interested in beginning the coaching process, you can email me at teachersintransitioncoaching@gmail.com or you can schedule a complimentary discovery call through my calendar

What if I sign up for this and decide it is not right for me? Do you have a money back guarantee?

Yes, I call it my "participate and get your money back" guarantee. If within the first month of our relationship you show up to the calls and participate fully in the coaching process, you can simply let me know this is not working for you and I will completely refund your money. To honor the coaching agreement and the coaching process, if you sign up and do not show up for your coaching sessions, do not do the follow up work, etc, then we will not refund your money.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. This site is protected by a username/password system. You are the only one that has access to your information.

Can I contact you in-between our scheduled coaching sessions?

Yes! In the event that you would like support on something that comes up in between our meetings, there is a secure portal where you and I can communicate.

How much time does this take:

you would meet with me for 50 minutes a week.   Typically we have three meetings and one week off in order to allow for implementation and catch-up.  Depending on what phase of the job search you are in, you might be asked to spend a couple of of hours of work on self-reflection or research on your desired jobs and companies.   When you are actively applying, there is a larger time comittment.

Alas, a job hunt is almost a full-time job itself.  Having a coach helps you focus and strategize so that you do not waste precious time.  A coach keeps you on track and provides touchpoints of accountability.

What sorts of resources do you provide?

The list grows every week.  I have trackers, templates, interview prep and practice.  Coming soon are videos to reinforce concepts we've covered in our sessions along with links, books, and worksheets.

What if I need to reschedule my appointment?

It's easy. With at least a 24 hour notice, you can reschedule any appointment by using the online calendar system. Just complete the following steps:

  1. Log into your Private Client Website Area.
  2. Click on the Calendar Menu.
  3. Locate and click on the desired block of “Available” time (or if you already have an existing appointment, click on the title of your existing appointment that you wish to reschedule)
  4. Click on the "edit" button and change the details of the appointment to correspond with an "Available" block of time.
  5. The calendar will update itself, you'll see your new appointment reflected and I will receive an email notification letting me know of the change.
